Eastern Market

Last weekend I went to Eastern Market on the weekend for the first time ever. It was VERY cool. I'll definitely be going back to maybe pick up a painting or two. BUT, the coolest thing I saw there by far was this:

For those who don't know, I am a huge t-shirt junkie. Typically, they are designer t-shirts. And by designer, I don't mean Gucci or Armani or that crap, but AWESOMELY CREATIVE PEOPLE WHO MAKE SHIRTS THAT ARE VISUALLY AWESOME. And the above shirt fits that description to a TEE. I can't describe how awesome it is. It has A GD ALIEN MAKING PANCAKES IN THE CAPITOL DOME! GENIUS! Anyway, if you're into this sort of t-shirt art, I recommend you check out the designer's site:

JON WYE

I gotta say... after spending some time talking to the Eastern Market folks that were at the Jon Wye stands and breezing the website, I'm inclined to spend a lot more dollars on this dude's stuff!

AND, to stop the suspense, I DID buy this shirt. In addition to the robot one which you can see on the website.

Prior to this Alien-Pancake-Capitol shirt, my favorite shirt was this:

And I own two of them. Because you see, when one stumbles across something as awesome as this, you must buy two, since one will eventually be needed to replace the one you wear all the time. At least that's how I view it.

I only got one of the Alien shirt though... for now... I just gotta make sure it's the right size!

Electric Six

FACT: Electric Six is one of the best bands ever.

Most people only know that they were responsible for the song: "Danger! High Voltage!"

WELL, since then (that was 2003), a lot of things have happened! Most noticeably, they have cranked out five other albums! And ALL of them are high quality. That's saying a lot for a band these days- Take Kings of Leon for example. They put out 3 solid albums and then sell the F out. Not Electric Six. I think E6 is more dedicated to keeping the rock alive because they're from the D(etroit). And if you haven't heard, it's so cold in the D.

Oh, by the way. The above video is for real. How awful, right?

The reason E6 gets their own post today is because they just recently released their newest album titled "Kill." (By just recently, I mean it was released in October 2009) I admit it, I had slacked off as a fan and missed the release until... well... now. But now is the time to make up for it by supporting the band through attending their shows! I have a feeling this recent tour is going to be awesome because the new album is a pretty hard rocking good time! This band TOURS NON-STOP and deserves your support!

Looking back, I think I've seen them 6 times... Each show was fantastic!
Ann Arbor, MI 2004
Ann Arbor, MI 2005
Baltimore, MD 2006
Washington, DC 2006
Washington, DC 2007
New York City, 2008

The NYC show was the last time I've seen them, and that show was part of the Rocks Off concert circuit (a bunch of shows on boats). It was a phenomenal night. Electric Six was amazing as usual, but unfortunately they were overshadowed by a heavy metal Beegees tribute band! They're back with a vengeance though for another boat show this summer, and Thursday, July 15th is the date when that goes on. Let's all go to NYC and bask in the goodness of an awesome band on a boat!

That's all. I'm off to the store to get more... FIRE!

Street Fighter

Does anybody remember Street Fighter?!

It was so totally Oscar worthy...

Lazerproof!

Here's another free mixtape for you all to download. I highly recommend that everybody download this one because it is fantastic! It is called LAZERPROOF, and is a mix of Major Lazer, and La Roux.

You can get it here:

LAZERPROOF

If you haven't listened to Major Lazer, all you need to know is that it is loud reggae/hip-hop set to awesome beats. Also, his (I say his, but "Major Lazer" really is composed of two DJs) debut album is pretty sweet to, but alas, that one you CAN'T download for free. It is called "Guns don't kill people, lazers do," which I think is pretty much the best album title I've ever heard of. Anyway, check out these songs for a taste:

This is my favorite though! I think I might have to be Major Lazer for Halloween...

Marathon Training Post #1

This is my third blog post of the night. This is SO me. In college (STOP READING PARENTS), I typically didn't do anything for a semester, and then crammed all my studying into the week before finals. That would help to explain my poor grades throughout most of my scholastic career. Anyway, I'm hoping to make up for my pitiful blogosphere presence over the past few months by making tonight memorable.

So, without further delay, I will describe my run tonight (because I know you care)...

Tonight was an important run for many reasons:

1) I feel fat / disgusting / out of shape right now, and tonight marks the start of my return to the world of fitness. Up to October of 2009, I was logging a lot of mileage every week in preparation for the Baltimore Half-Marathon. And, once I crushed the Half-Marathon, like any champion, I promptly quit running.

Sidenote: Great champions like Michael Jordan also once quit the sports that they would eventually return to, and DOMINATE...

Sidenote Concession: Michael Jordan is the only athlete who I can think of that has successfully done this... But hell, it's an example I can follow!

Anyway, fast forward to now. In the past few months... okay... six months... I haven't really done much physical activity other than my kung-fu. That said, I'm putting FITNESS FIRST for the next several months and I'm going to regain my six pack (of cut abs... although beer is sounding good right now).

2) It was one of the rare times where I've run while really under the weather. I currently have the cold from hell.

3) It was the first time I've ever run while doped up on Sudafed.

4) While not only does it mark the first run in my return to fitn
ess, it also marks the first run in my Marine Corps Marathon training regimen!

So how did this important run go? Terribly! I didn't stop or anything, but I felt like I was going to throw up all over Friendship Heights (my neighborhood). AND, the Sudafed made my head feel like a balloon that was just tugging my body in all kinds of funny directions.

Sidenote: Did you ever notice how all cold medicines make the claim that they will NOT give you "Medicinehead?" They're all full of shit.

In spite of all the obstacles the cold and the Sudafed posed, I did in fact finish my 6.0 mile run. Did I feel like I could run another 20.2 at the end? NO FUCKING WAY. But is it October 31st yet? NO! I'm going to be soooooooo ready for this thing... Just wait...

I'm even looking at costumes... and I think we have a winner!

DC Marine Corps Marathon

I recently signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon!

Here's what I would LIKE to say about this:

"I, Steve, thrive off of setting tough, yet attainable goals. I enjoy the dedication and work that is required in working towards reaching these goals. I feel an enormous satisfaction once I complete something that I know most people cannot."

While the above is true, it is misleading, because none of the above is why I actually signed up for the marathon. The reason I signed up is because I cave in easily to peer pressure. All it took was an email from my college roommate (Karl) and a former DC roommate (Adam) saying "Hey, run 26.2 miles with us! It will be fun!" , and I signed up for it. I didn't really think of what I was signing up for, I just kindof did it... In retrospect, I acted like a lemming.

BUT, I was a lemming with REASON! The last time Karl suggested a crazy idea, the proposition went something like this:

VIA TELEPHONE:

KARL- "Dude, when you come up to New York in a few weeks, do you want to go skydiving?!"
ME- "Dude, I'm drunk right now! I'll do anything!

As it turned out, Karl DID sign me up for skydiving, and it turned out to be AWESOME! Therefore, any idea he suggests will be awesome... Right? RIGHT?! I sure hope so!
